What does it mean to give more?

Giving More is more about your heart than it is your wallet. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, that’s where your heart will be.” Giving More is about realizing that when our heart is fully trusting God, we begin to realize the that “our” money isn’t really ours.

How can I give more?

When we accept that all we have is from God, we can then release control over our financial resources and allow God to use them as he intended: to provide for our needs, to provide for his church, and to bless others. Don’t reexamine your checkbook; revamp your priorities.

What is "Firstfruits"?

The Feast of Firstfruits was a Jewish feast held in the early spring at the beginning of the grain harvest, usually held the day following the Sabbath after Passover. Firstfruits was a time of thanksgiving for God’s provision. The First Fruits challenge is an opportunity for us to remember the provision of God and ask for His blessing on continued provision for the upcoming year.

What is a tithe, and why do I need to be challenged?

A tithe is a tenth of something paid as a voluntary contribution. The tithe was established by the Mosaic law as a means to provide for the priesthood (Leviticus 27:30). It is discussed throughout the Old Testament as a the first part of grain, fruit, or livestock that should be set aside in honor of the Lord.

Most people today do not practice the tithe since it is part of the Old Testament Law. We are no longer subject to the Law, thanks to Jesus’ work on the cross. But clearly, in all things, Jesus believed we should be surpassing the minimum requirements of the Law. The Law speaks of the tithe; Jesus speaks of generosity. Most would agree, generosity in today’s world is the exception, not the rule.
